Thirteenth Ergonomics Society of South Africa Conference (ESSA2017)
Third African Symposium on Human Factors and Aviation Safety (ASHFAS2017)
First ErgoAfrica Conference (ErgoAfrica2017)
“From reactive to proactive in safety and human factors”
13-15 September 2017, Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre, Johannesburg
From the informal economy workers in rural Eastern Cape South Africa to the bustling runways of OR Tambo international airport, there are many elements of these complex systems that may compromise safety at work. Through the application of human factors and ergonomics principles, incompatibilities within work systems can be better understood, thus enabling the development of proactive rather than reactive measures to improve human well-being and performance at work. We are pleased to bring you three conferences in one in 2017. From 13 to 15 September 2017 these conferences will be hosted by Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) in partnership with the Ergonomics Society of South Africa, University of the Witwatersrand, Rhodes University, and the University of Pretoria and sponsored by ATNS, COMAIR and the Rail Safety Regulator of South Africa. We hope to attract academics, students, government representatives, and industry professionals from the ergonomics, human factors, aviation safety, transport, mining, and healthcare industries. This year we are also intending to spread our wings further afield from South Africa and to attract people from countries across the African continent.
