Joining the ATNS Family
ATNS operates at 22 aerodromes around the country. ATNS primarily provides an advanced air traffic management service, as well as the implementation and maintenance of a reliable navigation infrastructure.
Our Air traffic controllers (ATC's) provide pilots with the necessary information and clearance they need to ensure that their flights are safely separated from all other aircraft operating within the same airspace. The volume and complexity of today's air traffic requires skillful control by highly trained staff. This includes tower control, which handles all aircraft ground movements, take offs and landings, while approach/radar control monitors approaching and departing traffic and en-route control/area control and information advisory services monitors the route. At the airport, control is largely visual, but in most instances, radar and other electronic equipment is important in preventing collisions and ensuring organized flow of air traffic.
ATNS employs people with vast skills and aptitudes. These people go on to become Air Traffic Service Assistants (ATSA's), Air Traffic Controllers (ATC's), Engineering Technicians and many other exciting professions. ATNS runs its own training college at the Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Johannesburg. The Company offers bursaries for students to complete training towards becoming Air Traffic Controllers; Air Traffic Services Assistants; Aeronautical Information Management Clerks and we also offer an Engineering Learnership programme.
